A fine-grained metamorphic rock that has developed a foliation (sheet-like layers) due to the pressure imposed upon it. Different minerals and metal oxides determine the various colours.

Typically blends of grey’s, yellows, rust, reds and browns, slate lend itself to most applications. Used for hundreds of years, slate had stood the test of time.
